New Haven is located on Long Island Sound about half-way across the state of Connecticut. Approximately an hour and a half from New York City and just over two hours from Boston, New Haven's central location makes it easy to get anywhere in New England. New Haven does not have a "big city" feel by any means, yet houses a surprising variety of dining and cultural activities. Many music, theater, and art venues, as well as dozens of resturants, are within walking distance of the medical center. Annually, New Haven hosts the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament, Artscape, as well as the summer weekend Concert on the Green series.
Of course, New Haven is perhaps best known as the home of Yale. The main campus is only a few blocks from the medical center, and students and faculty alike are frequently seen walking from one campus to the other.
Beyond New Haven, Connecticut provides a variety of geographies, from the Atlantic coastline and beaches to the Litchfield Hills and the Berkshires.
