Lobar pneumonias tend to happen to debilitated elderly patients. Fungal infections (mucor, aspergillus, candida) frequently occur in patients undergoing chemotherapy (particularly for leukemia). Viral infections happen at any age but are the most likely to affect healthy adults (such as the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic depicted here).
