Do the gross findings match what you see on the CT scans?

The 'Both' image shows usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Both lupus and systemic sclerosis can cause UIP. Note the patchy pulmonary fibrosis particularly at the periphery of the lung. Over time UIP will progress to diffuse fibrosis of the lung (honeycomb lung). We will learn more about this next year.

The lupus image shows a coating of fibrous tissue on the pleural surface of the lung in a patient with lupus that has resulted from a chronic pleural effusion.
